Cooperations

The challenges posed by applied research are too extensive to be addressed alone. To a certain extent the success of concrete development projects may rely on interdisciplinary scientific and financial support. For this reason a number of cooperations are currently in place.

Brenet

The "building and renewable energies network of Technology" is a network including Swiss colleges, research institutes from the Swiss Institute of Technology (ETH) domain and private institutions with an international network of relationships from the building technology and renewable energy field.

As a Brenet partner we have the opportunity to draw, if needed, on the excellent competence and knowledge of companies outside the solar thermal field.

KTI

KTI is the Confederation’s innovation promotion agency. For the past sixty years it has fostered knowledge and technology transfer between companies and universities by bringing them together as partners on applied research and development projects. KTI also provides assistance to market-oriented R&D projects in which companies and universities work together to develop products and services.

IEA-SHC

The "Solar Heating and Cooling Programme" of the International Energy Agency was established in 1977. Scientist from all over the world work together on common tasks under this programme.

Since 1985 SPF has been actively engaged in a wide range of tasks and working groups including:

  • Solar Materials Research and Development (Task 10)
  • Advanced Glazing Materials for Solar Applications (Task 18)
  • Solar Combi Systems (Task 26)
  • Performance of Solar Facade Components (Task 27)
  • Advanced Storage Concepts for Solar Thermal Systems (Task 32)
  • Solar Heat in Industrial Processes (Task 33)

SPF Research is currently involved in the following IEA-SHC working groups:

  • Solar Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (Task 38)
  • Polymeric Materials for Solar Thermal Applications (Task 39)
  • Compact Thermal Energy Storage (Task 42)
  • Solar Rating and Certification Procedure (Task 43)
  • Combined Solar Thermal and Heat Pump Systems (Task 44)
  • Solar Process Heat for Production and Advanced Applications (Task49)

EU

Switzerland is involved in several EU research programmes. These programmes support the cooperation between European research agencies, industry and SMEs. For further information on these programmes please visit  Euresearch.

SPF Research has been actively involved in the FP6-project NEGST, in the FP5-project “Solabs” as well as in the FP4-project “Sunface” and participates as an observer in the IEE-project Combisol.

ISES

The International Solar Energy Society (ISES) has been serving the needs of the renewable energy community since its founding in 1954. A UN-accredited NGO present in more than 50 countries, the Society supports its members in the advancement of renewable energy technology, implementation and education all over the world. Following the vision of a rapid transition to a renewable energy world, ISES is a multi-faceted, global membership organisation. With its long history and extensive technical and scientific expertise provided by its members, the Society is a modern, future-oriented non-governmental organisation (NGO). Dr. Elimar Frank, Research Director at SPF, is member of the ISES Board of Trustees and Vice President of ISES Europe. Read the ISES Statement for Global Policy Making.
